What is Dogitization ?
Dogitization is a public campaign dedicated to improving the welfare of street dogs through community engagement. We aim to create a kinder world where citizens and street dogs can coexist harmoniously.
What is the Origin of “Dogitization”?
The idea behind “Dogitization” emerged from an unexpected moment during a community project to plant neem trees in the Old Palasia neighborhood. A neighbor approached for help delivering a street dog's puppies, and as she assisted with all her heart, a profound sense of responsibility to care for stray dogs was born.
Why Do Dog Bites Occur, and How Are Governmental Agencies Responding?
Hunger and thirst are the leading causes of aggression in street dogs, but ongoing abuse from callous individuals only exacerbates the problem. Starving community animals is both illegal and unconstitutional in India. Various local and state initiatives work to uphold the “Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act” (1960) by offering food, shelter, and sterilization programs for dogs. Despite these efforts, dog bites continue to rise, costing the Indian government significant sums and highlighting the inadequacies in controlling the dog population and addressing their welfare. Aggressive behavior in street dogs, driven by hunger, thirst, and abuse, has become a serious concern in both rural and urban areas of India, affecting health, the environment, and the economy.
